South Mountain Neighborhood of Millburn, New Jersey

South Mountain is known for it's warm and friendly neighborhood feel. Our second Millburn home was in South Mountain and in the 8 years we were there, our children played with schoolmates that literally lived across the street or down the block. Trick or treating is especially fun in South Mountain because there are so many children close by and it's very flat. South Mountain is conveniently located within walking distance of schools, Taylor Park, and downtown Millburn, with it's shops, theater and restaurants. South Mountain is an ideal neighborhood for families, that enjoy walking to town and train.

Most of the homes in the South Mountain neighborhood of Millburn, New Jersey were built in the 1930's and are a mix of Colonials and Tudors.  Many of these homes have been renovated, expanded and updated several times along the way and it's not uncommon find a fabulous kitchen or an amazing remodel inside.

South Mountain Reservation

South Mountain get's it's name from the nearby 2,048 acre South Mountain reserve. This green enriched nature reserve is a green lover's dream and is a perfect place to take in all nature has to offer.  Established in 1895, the South Mountain Reserve offers Hiking, picnicking, an awesome dog park, the Turtle Back Zoo, and the newly renovated Richard Codey Ice Arena.

Convenience

South Mountain is within walking distance to Millburn’s beautiful town center, midtown direct train to NYC, and South Mountain Elementary School, Millburn Middle School, Millburn High School, Taylor Park, and several house of worship.

Taylor park is  a 16-acre park located in downtown Milburn.  It offers a playground and tennis courts, walking paths and a pond. With it's convenient and scenic location Taylor Park is a common destination  for kids or just a relaxing stroll. Many residents get amazing sandwiches at the bustling Millburn deli and picnic in the park a few steps away. Talk to any teenager and they'll rave about the 'Godfather', Millburn Deli's hoagy of choice for our kids. If Deli fare is not what you’re in the mood for, you can choose from any number of  other restaurants in the town center. Taylor Park is also the home of the Millburn Co Op, a fabulous single room old time pre-school.

Just a few minutes away, the larger Gero Park is the home of little league, football, the fabulous town pool, and golf course. Get there early for little league family day at Gero Park!

Excellence in Education for Residents of South Mountain

If a blue ribbon school system is an important component to your search for a new home, the South Mountain neighborhood amply provides it with top rated schools. The entire Millburn Township school district just ranked number one (again) in NJ Monthly's bi-annual rankings. The South Mountain schools include the South Mountain Elementary School and the Millburn Co Op. All Millburn children go to the Millburn Middle School when they reach the sixth grade and the number one ranked Millburn High School when they reach the ninth grade.
